Female shooter believed to be dead after shooting at YouTube headquarters leaves four injured

A shooting incident has taken place at YouTube's headquarters in San Bruno, San Francisco today, with the female shooter believed to be dead after a self-inflicted gunshot.

The current number of victims stands at four - but none are believed to have been killed.

The building is being thoroughly searched and all patients have been transferred to hospital.

Employees of YouTube described hearing shots in the building, barricading themselves inside rooms, and fleeing the scene.

Live updates from throughout the incident are below:

9.38am: The shooter is believed to have killed themself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini says. The deceased is a female. Four people were found injured in total by Police and have been taken to hospital.

9.34am: San Francisco General Hospital communications spokesperson Brent Andrew has confirmed that three people are being treated at the hospital. They are two women and a man. The two women are aged 32 and 27, and are in a serious and fair condition, respectively. The male patient is 36 and is in a critical condition.

9.30am: A news conference with officials is scheduled to begin soon.

9.23am: ABC15 has heard from a "reliable law enforcement source" that the shooter was found by police inside the building in a room with one of the victims. The shooter was reportedly wounded. Some law enforcement staff are now reportedly leaving the scene as they believe the situation could be under control.

9.21am: The LA Times is quoting an un-named law enforcement source saying the shooter was an adult white woman, but an eyewitness has also told ABC15 the shooter may have been male. 

9.09am: Stanford Healthcare has told ABC that "four to five" patients are being treated there for gunshot wounds.

9.03am: A stringer cameraman has told ABC he saw two ambulances pulling up to San Francisco General Hospital carrying at least three patients, who were breathing.

8.44am:  ABC reports San Francisco General Hospital has received an unknown number of patients from the incident in at least two ambulances.

8.25am:  ABC reported that a law enforcement source described the shooter as a white adult female, and said that some people have definitely been shot.

8.12am:  Video from the scene shows numerous police officers including a swat team present, with the swat team moving into the building.

8.10am: YouTube employee Todd Sherman said he heard the shooting downstairs, describing it as a "rumbling" and saying he thought it was an earthquake. "After existing the room we still didn’t know what was going on but more people were running. Seemed serious and not like a drill," he wrote.

"We headed towards the exit and then saw more people and someone said that there was a person with a gun. Shit ... At that point every new person I saw was a potential shooter. Someone else said that the person shot out the back doors and then shot themselves. I looked down and saw blood drips on the floor and stairs. Peaked around for threats and then we headed downstairs and out the front. Police cruisers pull up, hopped out with rifles ready and I told them where the situation was as I headed down the street to meet up with a couple team members. In an Uber omw home. Hope everyone is safe."

8.05am:  YouTube employee Vadim Lavrusik tweeted that he heard gunshots inside the building and saw people running past, before hiding in a room with others.

8.00am: Locals have reported hearing gunfire about 7.52am NZT (12.52pm local time), and employees of the company have been seen exiting the building with hands in the air as police watch on and search them.
