TVNZ1's Breakfast's presenters didn't hold back in their condemnation of Australian cricket captain Steve Smith, amid the ongoing ball tampering scandal in South Africa.
On day three of the third Test match in Cape Town, Australian opening batsman Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera trying to alter the condition of the ball using a piece of yellow tape, before it was revealed that the instruction came down from captain, Steve Smith.
Speaking this morning, the Breakfast team weighed in on the controversy.
"It's completely unacceptable in cricket, it's such blatant cheating," host Jack Tame said.
"He admits that he's cheating, he should be sacked as Australian captain, I find it astonishing that he thinks he can keep going as Australian captain."
Host Hayley Holt also had harsh words for Smith and Australia's players.
"He needs to learn a lesson," she said.
"The whole leadership group was in on it, and they got the youngest guy in the team to do it, which is just cowardly."
Smith has been handed a one match ban by the International Cricket Council, while further punishment is expected from Cricket Australia.
