Video: Palestinian teen activist arrested after footage of her slapping Israeli solider goes viral

December 20, 2017

A Palestinian teenager has been arrested by the Israeli Army, after footage of her allegedly assaulting an Israeli solider in the occupied West Bank went viral.

Ahed Tamimi, 16, was identified to be an activist by her family and was accused of assault and taking part in a riot.

The arrest occurred today after the Israeli Army raided Ms Tamimi's house, seizing telephones, computers and electronic equipment, Al Jazeera reports.

According to her father, they didn't give a reason for his arrest.

"Nariman was hysterically crying and attempted to hug Ahed, but she was thrown to the ground by the soldiers," he told Al Jazeera, referring to Ahed's mother.

He said at least 30 Israeli soldiers were involved in the raid and arrest.

The arrest came a day after the video of Ms Tamimi reportedly assaulting a solider emerged.

Her father claims the video was filmed immediately after Israeli forces fired tear-gas canisters at their home.

"Ahed was telling the soldiers to get away from our home," her father said.

"She was trying to force them to leave to prevent the soldiers from hurting anyone else."
