Three people badly hurt in Mount Maunganui crash

Three people have been badly hurt in a car crash at Mount Maunganui this morning.

St John Ambulance confirmed they attended a traffic accident at 1.19am and took three people to Tauranga Hospital.

Two of them were seriously injured and one was critically injured.

The accident took place on Marine Parade and Fire and Emergency NZ had to use cutting gear to get two people out of the car.

Police said the car hit a sand dune and has since been removed.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
