'Craziest weather ever!' Kiwi ex-pat has car damaged as massive hailstones slam into vehicle during freak Melbourne storm

December 20, 2017

A Kiwi ex-pat had his car damaged by hailstones the size of golf balls in a freak Melbourne storm yesterday.

Derek Footer was on his way home to Heidelberg West when he was forced to pull over and wait out a deluge of massive hailstones which were bouncing off his car.

"It was the craziest weather ever," he told 1 NEWS. "My car was damaged from the hailstones."

Footage he took of the incident shows other vehicles pulled over to the side of the road as the giant hail rains down, thudding onto his car's windows and roof.

The wild weather hit Melbourne between 4pm and 6pm yesterday, bringing damaging rain, hail and wind, as well as a 10C drop in the temperature which earlier reached 36C.
