A panel of Christchurch City Councillors has voted to go ahead with the $10-million-dollar grant for the restoration of the Christ Church Cathedral, despite the majority of submitters opposing it.
In September the synod voted to restore the cathedral, conditional upon funding from the Government and the City Council.
The Council received over 1000 submissions regarding the grant with more than 50 per cent of submitters not supporting the move.
How the project will use the funding and how long it will take is still to be confirmed.
The church was wrecked during the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.
