Christmas Day is shaping up to be sunny and warm for most New Zealanders, with a chance of some rain for some western coasts, says TVNZ weather presenter Dan Corbett.
Temperatures should be above normal for the next two weeks, but not too hot, he says.
"Not as hot as it's been with some of those 30 degrees, but will still be quite mild. Muggy in some places too."
Corbett says there'll be passing troughs and weak highs for the next few days and "in between the mix we'll get spells of some rain and dry weather".
Another high could come in after the 22nd, "and hopefully that'll sit in place just to the east of the country and give us some Christmas lunch on the beach. But we'll see.
"At the moment, going into Christmas Eve, there's some wetter weather off to the west. There could be some wetter weather to some western coasts of the country. But that can all change. This is a bit of a snap shot at the moment," Corbett said.
Temperature-wise, the prediction is for Christmas temperatures around 25 degrees in northern places, 23 in Wellington, 26 for Christchurch and 22 in Central Otago.
"Eastern areas could get a west-nor- wester, but we'll try to keep warm, fine weather right over New Zealand," Corbett says.
