A new initiative is helping to take a bit of the financial load off Kiwi parents in need.
It is estimated that parents spend up to $6000 on nappies for a child, but many of those nappies go unused.
The Baby Bag founder Jessie Jarvie has organised 'The Nappy Drive' with the help of Plunket and Uber.
"Parenting is extremely tough for everybody, let alone for those people facing the additional challenge of financial hardship," she said this morning on TVNZ1's Breakfast.
Ms Jarvie said "basic childcare needs can be financially crippling for low income families in NZ" and nappies made up a large part of that expense.
"The Nappy Drive involves the collection of unused disposable nappies and distribution of those nappies to families who really need them," she said.
She said they were seeing parents changing nappy sizes when they were half way through a pack, or having nappies left over from when the children become toilet trained.
They got an overwhelming response with parents who had left over nappies who wanted to help families in need.
