Watch: Well-dressed man posing as customer makes off with $50,000 diamond in US

Police in California are on the hunt for a brazen jewel thief who was caught on CCTV stealing a diamond worth nearly $50,000.

The man, who was wearing a white button up shirt and dress pants, had made an appointment a few days earlier to discuss engagement rings.

The stores spokesperson said: "We put it on his hand like this. If you notice in the video, Cathy even took the time to straighten it on his hand.

"We put it on his hand and he covered his hand, and turned and ran out of the store."

Police released video of the incident in the hopes someone would recognise the man.
