Truck hits mobility scooter in Matamata leaving elderly rider in serious condition

A truck has collided with a mobility scooter in Matamata this afternoon leaving the elderly rider in a serious condition.

The collision occurred on Firth St between Farmers Rd and College St, Matamata at about 3pm today.

The elderly rider has been taken to hospital and the Serious Crash Unit are investigating at the scene.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the scene as there will be traffic delays, and road diversions are in place.
