Police have identified a man who was found in the water and later died at a North Shore beach on Sunday.
Emergency responders were called to Saint Leonards Beach around 5.45pm and pulled the man to shore but were unable to revive him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene after a CPR attempt was unsuccessful.
In an update this afternoon, Waitematā CIB Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie said he had now been identified following a public appeal for information.
She said his next of kin has also been advised.

"Work is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the man's death," Goldie said.
"We thank those who shared our appeal for information."
