A 33-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in West Auckland that left two people critically injured.

Emergency services were called to Kirby St in Glendene at around 11.40pm on Sunday following reports a person had been injured.

Detective Senior Sergeant Adam Lough said police located two people with injuries consistent with knife wounds.

"Neighbours came to these people’s aid prior to emergency services arriving on the scene,” he said.

“We are very grateful for their assistance and bravery with what can only be described as a very confronting and upsetting scene.”

Two people were initially transported to hospital in a critical condition, while a third was transported to hospital with moderate injuries.

Yesterday, police confirmed to 1News a child was among the three people injured. The NZ Herald reported neighbours tended to a wounded baby at the scene.

Police said today one person had undergone surgery and remained in a critical condition.

A second person remained in a serious but stable condition in hospital, while another suffered moderate injuries and was recovering at home.

Lough said the investigation remained ongoing, with police working to establish the events leading up to the incident.

“We appreciate the public’s interest in what has occurred here,” Lough said.

“However, the welfare of two people is at the forefront of this, and their privacy is paramount as they recover from this traumatic event.”

Police said all those involved were known to each other and officers were not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

The woman was due to appear in the Waitākere District Court today via a bedside hearing.
