A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Christchurch's Edgeware yesterday.
Officers were called to a Purchas Street property just before 6am on Wednesday. The woman was found dead and a homicide investigation was launched.
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie today said a 52-year-old man taken into custody at the scene, and a murder charge was laid overnight.
"He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the Christchurch District Court on October 16," he said.
Police are not seeking anybody else over the death.
"A scene guard remains in place at the address while police complete a scene examination," Bailie said.
Residents, one of whom said there was a party the night before the woman's body was found, can expect an ongoing police presence in the area as inquires continue.
