A homicide investigation has been launched after a woman's death in Christchurch's Edgeware this morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said officers were called to a Purchas Street property just before 6am.
"Upon arrival, a woman was located deceased," he said.
A second person who was at the address is being questioned by police.
A neighbour who lives near the scene said there had been some kind of party there yesterday afternoon.

Bailie said police were not seeking anybody else over the death, saying there was "not believed to be any risk to public safety".
"A scene guard is in place, residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area," he added.
Staff will also be conducting reassurance patrols in the coming days.
St John said it was notified of an incident just before 6am, and sent one ambulance which was not required.
