A search is underway in the Waikato River in Hamilton where a person is suspected to have entered the river.
Sergeant Mark Harrison said officers first received a report at 1.30am near Swarbrick Landing off River Rd.
"Search and Rescue boats and a police helicopter have been assisting with the search," he said.
Harrison said public on the river today were asked to "keep an eye out for any items of interest" and to contact police if they saw anything.
He said there would be an ongoing police presence on the river and in the area.
