TVNZ In-Depth reporter Indira Stewart has revealed she has been battling breast cancer for the last nine months.
The broadcaster spoke out about her cancer journey in a post on Instagram, sharing videos of her undergoing treatment.
Stewart said she was first diagnosed with grade three breast cancer in January, starting treatment two weeks later.
"Tumour was aggressive," she wrote.
"I haven’t left home a lot this year, but when I have, I’ve hidden my Cancer pretty well with false lashes, drawn-on eyebrows and cold capping (a technology that preserved about half my hair volume).
"I haven’t even had a chance to tell many people. There are friends and family who will find out through this post, and I know they will understand."
Stewart said she went through menopause early due to treatment, and underwent a mastectomy.
"But I got a new boob, and I LOVE IT."
She wrote that she was still doing chemo alongside other treatment.
"The journey feels long, but I feel lucky and grateful."
She also had a message to all women.
"This is a reminder to get checked fam, get your mammogram if you’re eligible and don’t put it off."
Stewart is part of TVNZ's In-Depth team and has previously been a presenter on Breakfast and 1News bulletins.
According to the cancer foundation, grade 3 is described as "fast-growing", where cells look very different from normal breast cells.
