Two teens are in police custody after a girl was twice attacked in aggravated robberies.
The second of the attacks occurred on September 13, less than a month after the first violent incident on August 22.
According to RNZ, the initial assault involved two girls who were ganged up on by a group of teenagers they had been associating with.
A community post re-shared by a local advocate alleged the two girls were stomped on and beaten, before being stripped down to their undergarments and spat on.
They were then reportedly robbed of their phones, clothes and belongings.
Inspector Aron McKeown said the second attack involved one of the original victims and one of the teens now under arrest.
“Unfortunately, this offending has involved the same victim and offender as the initial incident in August, for which an arrest had already been made," he said.
“That offender, a 14-year-old female, has since been remanded in custody and is facing a charge of aggravated robbery with further charges pending,”
Police have since caught a second person who took part in the attacks, another 14-year-old girl.
She is due to appear in North Shore Youth Court on September 30 on charges of aggravated robbery, two counts of assault with intent to injure, shoplifting, and taking a document dishonestly.
McKeown said enquiries into the case are ongoing and police are working with the families of the victims.
“Police acknowledge the significant concern these incidents have caused the victims, their families, and the wider community," he said.
“We have no tolerance for these acts of violence, and it is understandably distressing for the victim to have encountered one of the alleged offenders on two occasions.
“Police have maintained regular contact with the victims and their families as we worked to hold the offenders accountable," McKeown said.
The arrests were made as part of an investigation into a group of Takapuna youths in relation to multiple offences, including robberies, assaults and shoplifting.
McKeown said the investigation started with the August 22 incident but turned into a wider operation when police connected it to other similar events.
“During the enquiry, investigators identified additional incidents allegedly involving the same group," he said.
No arrests have been made in relation to the second offender involved in the September 13 attack.
So far, four teens between the ages of 14 to 16 have been referred to Youth Aid.
