Police are investigating after two teenage girls were allegedly attacked and had their belongings stolen by a group of youths in Auckland's Takapuna last night.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Williams said the two girls had spent about an hour with the group on Saturday evening before the alleged attack.
"At about 9.30pm, the group reportedly turned on the pair," Williams said.
"The victims were separated and reportedly violently assaulted, before having their personal items stolen."
The pair eventually managed to return home and police were called.
Williams said the victims later identified several young people of interest at a bus station, where officers attended and spoke with the group.
Most of those believed to be involved, aged between 12 and 17, had now been identified by police.
Further inquiries were underway and potential charges were being considered.
Police were unable to confirm how many girls were allegedly involved.
"We know members of the public would be upset by this behaviour and police will not tolerate it in our community," Williams said.
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the incident but was stood down before arriving.
