A reality television star is believed to have fled Australia, with a warrant issued for his arrest.
Nathan Gallagher, who appears on Below Deck Mediterranean – a show following the lives of a superyacht crew – failed to appear in court yesterday.
According to Rolling Stone, the Irish bosun was arrested in Sydney on December 27 following reports of an alleged assault at a unit complex in Melrose Park.
The 28-year-old was reportedly charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally choking [a] person without consent, and common assault. The victim was reportedly a co-star and former girlfriend with whom he shares a child.
Gallagher was granted bail and had earlier pleaded not guilty.
In a statement, New South Wales police said Gallagher was wanted on outstanding warrants in Sydney’s north-west.
"Nathan is believed to be offshore," the statement said.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that prosecutors asked the judge to convict Gallagher in absentia. He was convicted on all three charges, and the warrant was issued.
