Two dead after separate North island crashes

Two people have died after separate crashes in Northland and Tauranga.

Two people have died overnight in separate car crashes.

Police found one person dead last night in Maungakaramea after responding to a single-vehicle crash.

Authorities were called to the intersection of Maungakaramea Road and Jobe Road at 5.20pm on Friday night.

Another person died in Tauranga on Cameron Road on Saturday morning.

Police said the sole occupant of the vehicle was found dead at the scene after they were called to the incident just after 5.40am.

FENZ reported the vehicle collided with a tree.

Maungakaramea and Jobe Roads have since reopened, but police report enquiries into the crash remain ongoing.

Cameron Road in Tauranga remains closed between 15th and 17th Ave as officers carry out a scene examination.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and to expect delays if driving through the city.
