Multiple memorial plaques stolen from central Christchurch

A missing plaque.

Several brass memorial plaques have stolen from central Christchurch – with police issuing a photograph of someone who may be able to help solve the crimes.

Christchurch Metro Commander Superintendent Lane Todd said the thefts occurred sometime overnight on Tuesday, August 11 and Wednesday, August 12.

Todd appealed for public information on the plaques removal from the Latimer Square and the Bridge of Remembrance areas.

Police were keen to speak with the man pictured.

He said police were keen to speak with a man pictured – or anyone who might know the man – as they may be able to help with the investigation.

"If this is you, or if you know who this person is, please get in touch," Todd said.

Police also hoped to speak to anyone in the affected areas on those nights, or who may have CCTV, dashcam footage, or information about the whereabouts of the plaques.
