Alleged gangland boss Fadi Haddara has reportedly been shot in his car and left with critical injuries.
Haddara, 48, was shot in an ambush outside his Altona North home, in Melbourne's inner-west, on Sunday evening, the ABC reported on Monday.
Police said in a statement that emergency services responded to reports a 48-year-old had been shot in a car in the driveway of a home shortly before 8pm.
The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after the targeted attack, they said.
Police did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation that the victim was Haddara.
Officers from the Major Crime Scene Unit were at the scene on Monday morning.
The alleged underworld boss, said to be the head of his namesake family crime clan linked to Melbourne's illicit tobacco trade, had gun charges against him dropped last year.
