A Kosovo opposition MP threw eggs at its acting prime minister last week after he said he needed more time to speak with other parties before proposing a candidate to be speaker.
Time Kadrijaj, an MP for the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo party, hurled the eggs at acting prime minister Albin Kurti.
Footage of the incident shows MPs from Kurti’s party along with police officers rushing to stop Kadrijaj as she pulled the eggs from her purse while yelling “shame, shame”.
Reuters reported the incident has highlighted the political deadlock which the country has faced for almost two years.
Kurti, the caretaker prime minister whose his party won a snap election in June, needs a few votes from smaller parties to form a government.
However, he does not have the parliament majority required to elect a president.
“We do not yet have a political agreement. Therefore, in order to avoid new elections, I asked for additional time (to present the name of the Speaker of Parliament),” Kurti said.
His Vetevendosje party currently holds 58 seats out of 120, and is negotiating with the Democratic League of Kosovo, which holds 18 seats, to gain a majority and with the support of ethnic minority parties, elect a president.
Kurti has so far not agreed to the Democratic League of Kosovo's demand to hold the presidency as part of a coalition agreement.
