One arrested, another in hospital following Rotorua assault

A man was arrested following an assault in Rotorua overnight, with the victim taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police said officers were called to the Rotorua Lakefront at around 3.15 am.

The victim was found in a critical condition and taken to hospital.

"The alleged offender was located nearby a short time later and taken into custody," Acting Detective Inspector Louise Curragh said.

"Police are now working to establish the full circumstances of what has occurred, and charges are being considered."

Anyone with information was asked to call police on 105.
