A motorcyclist has died after a crash with a car in Northland this afternoon.

The two-vehicle crash was reported on State Highway 1 near Awanui at around 12pm on Sunday.

Police said the rider died at the scene and that no other injuries had been reported.

"The road remains closed while a scene examination is conducted," a police spokesperson said.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect ongoing delays.
