The Chase star Anne Hegerty's has revealed how much the chasers are really paid – as she threw her hat into the ring for a second season of the New Zealand spin-off.

Hegerty, known as The Governess, is among six chasers – including Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis – on the popular game show, which has spawned a multitude of spin-offs.

Last month, the 67-year-old confirmed The Chase would be put on hold by ITV until 2027 – giving the quizzers and host Bradley Walsh a much-needed break.

"We’ve got hundreds of shows in the can," Hegerty told The Sun.

"Last year we did two series of Beat the Chasers, which we were only supposed to do one.

"And it gives everyone time to do things. Bradley has things he wants to do, Jenny has her singing."

But disappointed fans won't have to wait long to fill the Chase-sized void, with Chase Around the World premiering in the UK next week. The show has pairs of contestants travel to secret international locations to follow clues and solve puzzles in a bid to find the six chasers.

An air date for New Zealand has not been confirmed at this stage.

This week, Hegerty told Digital Spy the show had "worked us into the ground" with its intense filming schedule, adding that she "barely had a break" from filming between September last year and May this year.

But The Governess said the chasers' hard work wasn't going unrewarded.

"I made about £100,000 (NZ$235,000) more last year than I normally do."

During her break from filming, Hegerty said she would be filming The Chase Australia – as the quiz maven made a bid for another season of the New Zealand spin-off with host Paul Henry following the success of the pilot.

"I know that New Zealand want to do another series, so it is a case if I could do that," she said.

"I will take the New Zealand job if they offer it."
