The FIFA World Cup has been whittled down to its final eight teams, with the quarterfinal match-ups now locked in after a dramatic round of 16.

This year's 48-team tournament featured a new round of 32 knockout stage before the traditional round of 16, where several heavyweight nations saw their World Cup campaigns come to an end.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal fell short to Spain, Norway ended Brazil’s campaign and Neymar’s hopes of finally lifting the World Cup trophy, and Belgium thrashed hosts USA in a match marred by red-card controversy.

England ended co-hosts Mexico’s tournament in a thrilling encounter, while Argentina survived another elimination scare, producing a late comeback to knock out Egypt and keep their title hopes alive.

Now, just eight teams remain in contention to become world champions.

Here’s the full list of quarterfinal fixtures (all times NZT), with the semifinals to follow next week. All games can be viewed on TVNZ+ with an event pass, with select games also free to view on TVNZ 1.
