One person was killed and 11 were injured after a vehicle went off the road near Gisborne yesterday evening.
Emergency services were called to Wharekopae Road in Patutahi at around 5.20pm following the single-vehicle crash.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said a vehicle had "gone off the road".
This morning, police said one person died at the scene.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said eleven people were injured in the crash and taken to Gisborne Hospital.
Five were in a serious condition, three were in a moderate condition, and three were in a minor condition.
Five ambulances, two rapid response units, two operations managers, three helicopters, and one major incident support team unit were dispatched to the scene.
FENZ sent three crews from Gisborne and Patutahi. A spokesperson said no one was trapped.
