Deal reached to end Iran war, Trump orders stop to US naval blockade

The United States and Iran have reached an agreement to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz, offering relief to the global economy more than three months since fighting began.

US President Donald Trump confirmed a deal had been reached and said he had authorised an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.

“Congratulations to all!” he wrote on social media, without providing details. He added, “Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

What to know as NBR releases its 2026 Rich List

New Zealand's richest families and individuals are now worth a combined $129 billion, according to the latest National Business Review (NBR) Rich List — a sharp increase from the previous year's $102 billion and a dramatic jump from the $5.3 billion recorded when the list first launched 40 years ago.

The 2026 list, compiled by NBR co-editor Hamish McNicol, also showed the number of billionaires in New Zealand had risen from 18 to 26 in just a year.

McNicol told BNZ’s Business Breakfast this morning the rapid growth in wealth was being driven largely by New Zealand’s technology and services sectors.

Stowaway twin Joanne Ingham's death ruled natural despite bruising, abuse

A coroner has ruled the death of Joanne Ingham — one half of the twin duo who stowed away on a container ship and swam to freedom in 1997— was from natural causes.

The decision released today comes despite bruising on her body and a documented history of domestic violence.

The 43-year-old was found unresponsive in the toilet of a Wellington motel room on June 7, 2022. Her partner Isaac Walker had been with her that night and told police he had heard her get up to use the bathroom.

ONE UFC CELEBRATION

US President Donald Trump marked his 80th birthday by staging a once unfathomable cage-fighting show on the storied South Lawn of the White House.

Trump and UFC chief Dana White walked together from the Oval Office to the Blue Room Balcony to survey the Octagon and stood for the national anthem as fighter jets thundered overhead. The crowd chanted, "USA! USA!"
