The family of an 81-year-old Christchurch woman found safe after being missing for four days say they are "overwhelmed with relief" following her discovery.
Valerie Hargrave was found in Ferrymead on Tuesday evening after disappearing from her home in nearby Woolston on Saturday.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Hargrave's granddaughter thanked the community, police and search and rescue teams for their "incredible support and kindness" throughout the search.
"We are so pleased to have Val found safe and alive after an incredibly worrying few days," she said.
"We are so amazed and thankful for the way this community has shown up and effortlessly helped us search for Val."
She said the family was "overwhelmed with relief" at the outcome and grateful for everyone who helped bring Hargrave home safely.
"We are certainly hugging her a little tighter today. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts."
Police said Hargrave was "extremely cold" when she was found but was talking to officers and would undergo a medical examination.
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said the multi-day search involved police teams and members of the public.
Police also thanked everyone who assisted in the search efforts.
