Gisborne police have praised the actions of bystanders which resulted in the arrest of a woman after a 65-year-old woman using a walking frame was robbed in Gisborne.
The woman was outside a superette on Roebuck Rd at around 10am on Saturday when she was threatened and money in her hands was allegedly snatched.
The incident was witnessed by the victim’s son, the superette owner and another bystander, who all followed the alleged offender to an address on Anzac St until police arrived.
Police arrested a 29-year-old woman who has been charged with robbery and is due to appear in Gisborne District Court on June 2.
Senior Sergeant Debra Rasmussen said the police would like to thank the bystanders who took action in the incident.
“They did the right thing by immediately calling emergency services, while also taking safe steps to ensure officers could quickly locate the woman involved.”
The victim was unharmed.
