TVNZ is the new home of the America’s Cup as Emirates Team New Zealand seeks to retain the Auld Mug in Naples for a record fourth time.

The broadcaster confirmed today it will screen the 38th America’s Cup Match and preliminary regattas, the Louis Vuitton Cup, Women’s America’s Cup and Youth America’s Cup.

The racing will feature comprehensive coverage across the TVNZ 1 and Duke channels, and TVNZ+ and 1News platforms.

The coverage begins with the first preliminary regatta in Sardinia from May 21-24.

The 38th America's Cup will take place in Naples, Italy with racing beginning in July 2027.

Emirates Team NZ is the defending America’s Cup holder after defeating INEOS Britannia in Barcelona in October 2024.

TVNZ’s position as this country’s official broadcaster cements a relationship that dates back to the very first New Zealand challenge in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1987. TVNZ was also among the original family of five sponsors of Team NZ.

Emirates Team New Zealand celebrate.

Emirates Team NZ CEO Grant Dalton said TVNZ had a history of delivering compelling coverage of the America’s Cup, including innovative graphics.

“It’s great that we could bring TVNZ back for the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup and give fans free-to-air coverage of what is set to be a stand-out Cup in Naples.

"We go into the ‘lion’s den’ as the Defender seeking to win for the fourth time in a row.”

TVNZ Chief News and Content Officer Nadia Tolich said it was exciting to have the America’s Cup joining the broadcaster’s line-up of live sport.

“Emirates Team New Zealand is part of Aotearoa’s DNA. As a nation, we love getting behind our team out on the water and it will be a privilege to bring viewers every regatta and race, live, and free-to-view across our platforms,” she said.

“We’re right behind Grant and the team as they compete to once again make the America’s Cup New Zealand’s Cup.”

The America’s Cup is the latest in a long line of TVNZ’s sport acquisitions.

This includes extensive coverage of this year’s Fifa World Cup, with viewers able to purchase a $44.95 event pass to watch all 104 matches live and exclusive clips and highlights packages.

TVNZ also has the right for netball’s ANZ Premiership and grassroots rugby, including select NPC, Heartland Championship and Farah Palmer Cup matches.
