Former New Zealand heavyweight UFC fighter Mark Hunt has has been charged with a domestic violence offence in Australia.
Hunt, 52, was charged with stalking or intimidation with intent to cause physical harm.
He also had allegedly messaged a death threat to a woman, the court heard on Wednesday, a fact disputed by the defence.
Hunt was arrested at a home in Australia's Northern Rivers in New South Wales on Tuesday evening.
Police told Sydney Morning Herald the arrest followed reports of an alleged domestic incident. Hunt spent that night in custody at Ballina Police Station.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported police alleged Hunt had been helping the complainant with a task when he then behaved in an "intimidating and berating manner". This then caused "fear and distress" for a witness and the woman.
Police also alleged Hunt had previously texted the woman a death threat, which read: "I'm just going to murder you in the end anyway".
Hunt was not charged in relation to this text, and the defence had disputed it was sent.
Police had also opposed bail, and argued Hunt was a "heightened" risk to the alleged victim and community due to his history as a wrestler.
The defence reportedly disputed the claim his history in sport was a factor in his alleged offending, but said he was likely to plead guilty to the stalking and intimidation charge.
He was granted bail and will reappear at the end of the month. An application for an Apprehended Violence Order was also being sought.
Hunt, who was born in Auckland, has Samoan heritage and has competed as a wrestler, kickboxer and mixed martial arts fighter. He last fought in the UFC in 2018.
