A trail of destruction left by an alleged car thief has been revealed after a suspected stolen vehicle crashed into a swimming pool.

The aftermath of a wild morning has featured in a police video that was released after a 21-year-old man was accused of multiple car thefts and ramming a taxi.

The footage shows officers walking past a smashed fence and trees before finding a black Lexus in a small in-ground backyard pool with its hazard lights still blinking.

A man is then seen sitting astride a fence before being apprehended by dog squad officers.

The 21-year-old man is accused of starting his spree early on Wednesday morning when he allegedly arrived at a Gold Coast address in a stolen car.

Police responded to a report about 1am (3am NZT) that a man had entered the Nerang residence and stole a BMW after being disturbed by the occupant.

About 1.45am (3.45am) the man in the BMW is accused of forcing a taxi to stop and demanding fuel while indicating he had a weapon.

"When the taxi driver attempted to leave, the BMW allegedly rammed the taxi, causing it to roll onto its side down an embankment," a police statement said.

The 63-year-old male taxi driver and the male passenger, 69, were later removed from the car by emergency services and taken to hospital before being released.

The suspected thief continued driving along Beaudesert-Nerang Road before crashing into a fence and a parked horse float.

About 2am (4am NZT) he is accused of fleeing on foot to a neighbouring property where he attempted to steal the black Lexus IS250, driving it into a swimming pool while trying to escape.

The man fled on foot and was later arrested by police and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for observation.

Dangerous drugs and utensils were later found along with a syringe in the man's possession, police said.

The 21-year-old Goodna man has been charged with multiple offences including attempted armed robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle and three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was set to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
