Two people have been taken to hospital after a chemical reaction at Dunedin Airport.
RNZ reported the incident occurred at the airport's sewage treatment plant, and involved two litres of hyperstat chloride and three litres of sulphiric acid, "leading to the workers' injuries".
Fire and Emergency New Zealand told 1News a call was received at 11.50am.
FENZ said it was working to identify the area as safe, and had moved the product to a safe space and the airport had sought specialist advice.
A Dunedin Airport spokesperson told 1News in a statement two staff memberswere taken to Dunedin Hospital for checks and observation as a precautionary measure, however they had not suffered any significant impact.
“We have since heard from them both and they are doing fine."
The spokesperson said an investigation would be conducted in accordance with policy and procedure, but its focus for now was on the staff and site.
