A person has died and part of a state highway is closed following a two-vehicle crash between Bulls and Sanson in Manawatū this morning.
Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 1 on Bulls Bridge around 10.55am, police said.
One person died at the scene.
SH1/3 at Bulls would be closed between Tangimoana Rd and Bridge St over Rangitīkei River Bridge while the serious crash unit carried out a scene examination.
The road was expected to remain closed "for much of the afternoon", the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said.
A detour was in place, with light northbound vehicles to be detoured right onto Wilson Rd, then left onto Halcombe Rd to SH1. Heavy vehicles would be detoured through Awahuri to Feilding and north through Halcombe.
Southbound vehicles would be detoured onto SH1 at Bulls or for those coming from Taupō, detoured left onto Halcombe Rd then through Feidling and onto Awahuri-Feilding Rd.
"Please follow the detour directions of crews on site and adhere to traffic management in place," NZTA said.
