Trio 'violently assaulted' while trying to stop alleged mall shoplifters

Two people will appear in court after what police described as a 'violent assault' during an alleged shoplifting attempt at Auckland's Glenfield Mall last week.

Police were called to the North Shore mall at around 1.30pm Friday to reports that two security guards had been attacked by alleged shoplifters.

"Two security guards and a member of the public had been assaulted," a police spokesperson said.

Dunedin woman's hunting death a terrible accident, rules coroner

The death of a Dunedin woman who shot herself in the head while deer hunting in an Otago forest was a terrible accident, a coroner has ruled.

Kate Aynsley, 48, died in Beaumont Forest's Blue Mountains Conservation Area in June 2023.

In findings released on Monday, coroner Mary-Anne Borrowdale said Aynsley's gun likely went off by accident as she either fell or fumbled in steep, slippery terrain.

Tyre and wheel damage on Emirates Airbus after Auckland landing, probe launched

An investigation has been launched after an Emirates A380-861 was found to have damaged two tyres and wheels after landing at Auckland Airport yesterday.

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission announced it had opened an inquiry into the "serious incident" involving an Emirates A380-861 aircraft arriving shortly after 11.30am on Sunday in wet weather conditions.
