'Speaks volumes': Andrew ignores US Congress invite to discuss Epstein links

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his royal titles in October of this year.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has failed to respond to a request from the US Congress to appear for questioning over his ties to disgraced sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The House Oversight Committee asked the former Prince Andrew to provide testimony as part of its ongoing probe into Epstein, his associates, and those who may have enabled his offending.

The letter, signed by 16 members of Congress, said investigators had identified "financial records containing notations such as ‘massage for Andrew’" that they claimed raised further questions about his dealings with Epstein.

In a joint statement released today, Representative Robert Garcia, the Oversight Committee’s ranking member, and Representative Suhas Subramanyam said the former prince’s silence "speaks volumes".

"The documents we’ve reviewed, along with public records and Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s testimony, raise serious questions he must answer, yet he continues to hide," the committee said.

"Our work will move forward with or without him, and we will hold anyone who was involved in these crimes accountable, no matter their wealth, status, or political party. We will get justice for the survivors."

As a foreign national, the House was unable to subpoena Andrew.

Andrew was formally stripped of his remaining royal titles by his brother, King Charles, three weeks ago.

Although he stepped back from public duties in 2019 and his honorary military roles and HRH status were removed in 2022, his brother King Charles revoked him of all royal titles last month after renewed scrutiny around his involvement with Epstein.

The renewed pressure followed revelations in a posthumous memoir by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein’s most prominent accusers, who detailed further allegations about her encounters with Andrew when she was a teenager.

Andrew has repeatedly denied the various accusations. In a disastrous interview with BBC in 2019, Andrew defended his relationship with the sex offender, showed no empathy for the victims, and claimed he broke off contact with Epstein after his first conviction in December 2010.

However, emails between Andrew and Epstein later showed he was in contact with Epstein later than he claimed, that then led to him ceding his royal title of the Duke of York.
