Two in hospital, two unaccounted for after huge house fire in Auckland

Two people remain unaccounted for and another two were taken to hospital following a large blaze at a property in Auckland's Bucklands Beach this morning.

Five fire trucks, one command unit, and one support unit were at the scene fighting the blaze. Footage from the scene showed the two-storey building completely engulfed in flames.

"We are working to establish what has occurred and urgently locate the people unaccounted for." said Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Va’aelua.

'Dictatorship model' - Te Pāti Māori slammed by hīkoi leader

Toitū Te Tiriti, one of Te Pāti Māori's closest allies, has cut ties with the party and accused it of operating a "dictatorship model".

The comments came from the organisation's spokesperson Eru Kapa-Kingi who said the movement is taking steps to no longer be politically aligned with Te Pāti Māori.

"Their leadership style, and the way they've been running Te Pāti Māori, is problematic."

The Warehouse Group blames $2.8 million loss on 'challenging' economy

The Warehouse Group today announced its financial results for the 2025 financial year, posting a $2.8 million net loss after tax.

Earlier this year, the company warned of financial headwinds in its preliminary financial report. Today, it said group sales were $3.1 billion, up 1.6% on FY24, flat on a 52-week same store basis.

"Economic and retail conditions in New Zealand remain extremely challenging," said The Warehouse Group chairperson Dame Joan Withers.

CAR TRIES TO STOP BURGLARY

A dramatic video showed a white SUV attempting to block a stolen vehicle outside a shop on Auckland's North Shore moments after three offenders carried out a brazen aggravated burglary on Wednesday afternoon.

The stolen vehicle could be seen reversing away from the scene and driving past the SUV, sustaining a large dent on its passenger side during the confrontation.
