Machete found in Auckland reserve during probe into Kyle Whorrall's killing

Police have found a machete in an Auckland reserve five months after the killing of student Kyle Whorrall at a bus stop in April.

Whorrall, 33, was struck with a "large, bladed weapon" at a bus stop in the suburb of St Johns on April 19, sustaining "unsurvivable injuries" and later dying in hospital. Police said two assailants were involved in the attack.

Bank predicts OCR may hit 2.25% by Christmas

ASB has forecast aggressive action from the Reserve Bank to "jumpstart" the economic recovery, predicting successive rate cuts to bring the Official Cash Rate (OCR) to 2.25% by Christmas.

Released today, the bank's latest Economic Forecast Update highlighted that while the recovery was taking longer than hoped, resilient export performance and improving consumer spending were providing a "strong foundation for cautious optimism".

Fast food operator Restaurant Brands has received a full takeover offer from its major shareholder, Madrid-based Finaccess Restauración, valuing the company at $630 million.

Finaccess already owned 75% of Restaurant Brands, which operated the KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Carl's Jr brands in New Zealand.
