Chinese fast fashion giant Shein has launched an investigation after an image of murder-accused Luigi Mangione was used to model clothing on its website.
Mangione, 27, is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York last December. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The image on Shein’s website appeared to show a man with Mangione's likeness modelling a short-sleeved shirt with a floral pattern.
The clothing item was being sold for US$9.59 (NZ$16.30).
The image – which led to speculation online about whether it was made with AI – has since been removed.
"The image in question was provided by a third-party vendor and was removed immediately upon discovery," a Shein spokesperson told the BBC in a statement.
"We are conducting a thorough investigation, strengthening our monitoring processes, and will take appropriate action against the vendor in line with our policies."
It was not known how long the image was on Shein's website before its removal.
