1 Thunderstorms hit Taranaki, Nelson Tasman state of emergency extended

Heavy rain and strong wind watches and warnings are in place for various parts of the country.

A state of emergency has been extended for a further seven days in the Nelson-Tasman area in anticipation of heavy rain fall.

Severe weather alerts cover much of the country, with heavy rain and strong winds forecast for the Bay of Plenty and top of the South Island.

Severe thunderstorms were expected for the upper North Island and Taranaki.

Woolworths' loyalty programme has apologised after an email claiming members had a $15 voucher to spend was mistakenly sent to around 500,000 customers.

The message was intended for a small number of new members who had recently earned their first reward but — due to human error — it was sent much more widely.

3 Woman appears in court after baby's body found in Auckland bin

A woman has appeared in the Auckland District Court this morning charged in relation to the discovery of the body of a newborn baby in a wheelie bin in Auckland’s Freemans Bay.

Police had been investigating since officers located the human remains on Renall St on Tuesday.

Court documents showed the 32-year-old was charged with interfering with human remains — a charge that faces a maximum sentence of two years in jail.

4 Sean 'Diddy' Combs denied bail after mixed verdict clears him of top charges

A US judge has declined to grant bail to Sean "Diddy" Combs, preventing the hip-hop mogul from being freed ahead of sentencing in his sex crimes case.

The bond decision came after a jury convicted Combs of federal prostitution-related offences but acquitted him of sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

The Grammy-winning impresario stands convicted of two counts of a crime — transportation to engage in prostitution — that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. But jurors cleared him of charges that could have put him behind bars for life.

HOW LOW COULD MORTGAGE RATES GO

With the Official Cash Rate (OCR) steadily coming down over the last 12 months, interest rates paid by borrowers have also fallen – giving much relief to homeowners with loans across the country.

Currently, interest rates are at 6.92% on average for floating rates, 5.64% for one-year fixed, and 5.63% for two-year fixed.

That's with the OCR currently sitting at 3.25% and set to have its fourth review of the year next week. But is it set to drop again? And if so, would interest rates continue to fall over the next few months?
