1 Reserve Bank cuts official cash rate to 3.25%

The widely anticipated 25 basis point cut was the third of 2025 and the first since the Budget was released.

Finance Minister Nicola Willis said the cut was "good news".

"When people have more money in the household budget, they’re more likely to spend it at local shops, local cafes, and we look forward to that helping the economic recovery on its way."

2 Ryan Satterthwaite's family urge people not to take part in viral tackle game

The 19-year-old suffered a serious head injury while playing a game based on the controversial craze with friends in Palmerston North. He died in hospital on Monday night.

His uncle Pete told 1News the events Satterthwaite and his friends were imitating were “utter stupidity”.

"Don’t do it, it’s utter stupidity. It seems like a bit of harmless fun, and as a teenager, I probably would have been doing the same thing with my friends, but no one gives any thought to the consequences."

Desmond Adams has had to begin his house hunt on crutches after receiving a 90-day notice less than a month before a major knee operation.

"I felt really gutted, angry, and frustrated. It was like, what's going on here? You guys have known about my surgery for a while, and now you're serving me with this?"

The property manager declined to comment when approached by 1News.

4 Rugby union considers cancelling matches over referee abuse

The Horowhenua Kapiti Rugby Football Union said recent events had seen refs targeted with verbal threats, threats of physical harm – including being stabbed – and “actual physical abuse”.

The union said it was "deeply concerned" about escalating abuse and it had reached a “tipping point”.

“The safety and well-being of our match officials must take absolute priority.”

5 Thunderstorms to lash Bay of Plenty, wind warning for Auckland Harbour Bridge

MetService said a front was expected to move eastwards across New Zealand today and early on Thursday morning.

Orange heavy rain warnings were in place for the eastern Bay of Plenty and ranges northwest of Motueka, while heavy rain and strong wind watches were in place for Northland, the western Bay of Plenty, and the Richmond and Bryant ranges.

NZTA urged caution on the Auckland Harbour Bridge this evening and also announced that State Highway 6 through the Lower Buller Gorge had reopened following slips on Monday.
