Dame Lisa Carrington to miss 2025 international season

Lisa Carrington of New Zealand wins gold in the women’s Kayak Single 500m gold medal final at the Paris Olympics.

1News can confirm Dame Lisa Carrington will skip this year's international kayak season.

She will return to international competition next year with her sights firmly set on the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

The eight-time Olympic gold medallist is back to full training after claiming three gold medals at the Paris Olympics but won't be competing internationally.

Dame Lisa is New Zealand's most decorated Olympian.

It comes as Canoe Racing NZ named a 13-strong team for the upcoming ICF Canoe Sprint World Cups in Szeged, Hungary and Poznan, Poland.

The team comprises Aimee Fisher, Alicia Hoskin, Finn Murphy, Grant Clancy, Hamish Legarth, James Munro, James Scott, Kacey Ngataki, Kalani Gilbertson, Lucy Matehaere, Olivia Brett, Quaid Thompson and Tara Vaughan.
