1 Oscar-winner Gene Hackman, wife Betsy Arakawa and dog found dead

Oscar-winner Gene Hackman, his wife and one of their dogs were apparently dead for some time before a maintenance worker discovered them at the couple's Santa Fe home, according to investigators.

Hackman, 95, was found dead Thursday in a mudroom and his 63-year-old wife, Betsy Arakawa, was found dead in a bathroom next to a space heater, Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office detectives wrote in a search warrant. There was an open prescription bottle and pills scattered on a countertop near Arakawa.

2 Former Auckland undertaker admits interfering with human remains

A former Auckland undertaker accused of improperly handling human remains and deceiving people to buy vaccines for their dead loved ones has pleaded guilty to 14 charges.

Fiona Bakulich, 48, a former employee of Tipene Funerals, admitted to two charges of interfering with human remains and 12 charges of obtaining by deception.

Today marked the last day of preliminary competition at Te Matatini.

The finalists will perform again in the top 12 tomorrow for the ultimate prize – the Ngāpo and Pīmia Wehi Duncan McIntyre Memorial Trophy.

The man accused of killing Nelson policewoman Lyn Fleming has pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder.

However, he admitted drunk driving and driving while disqualified.

The 32-year-old appeared in the Blenheim High Court today, where his interim name suppression was continued.

ONE MAJOR CHANGE FOR AUCKLAND ROADS

30km/h is currently the permanent speed limit around the majority of urban schools.

Speed limits will soon go back up on roads across Auckland and a new map sets out for residents which areas are affected.

The changes align with the Government’s new land transport rule regarding speed limits. The rule required all speed limits lowered since January 2020 on several categories of roads to go back to their previous limits by the beginning of July this year.

Auckland Transport has now released an interactive map of the city, showing which roads will have their speed limits raised again.
