1 Former National minister Nikki Kaye dies: 'Made a huge contribution'

Former National Party Minister Nikki Kaye has died aged 44.

Kaye served as MP for Auckland Central from 2008 until 2020 and held ministerial positions under John Key's government.

She was National's deputy leader under Todd Muller and left politics in 2020.

In 2016, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Key told media today that it was a "really sad day". He said Kaye had tremendous "tenacity, determination, and dedication to everything she did".

2 Thousands join Māori roll after Treaty Principles Bill hīkoi

The Māori electoral roll has grown by more than 3000 people – after organisers of the hīkoi mō te Tiriti promoted a switch from the general roll.

Data up to November 25 showed 2262 people changed from the general roll to the Māori roll – up from 59 in October.

3 NCEA Level 1 'not working': ERO calls for another overhaul as minister responds

Serious questions need to be asked about NCEA Level 1 which has created an unfair two-tier system, Education Minister Erica Stanford says.

She said serious variability issues have been exposed for schools around the country and it was trying to be "everything to everyone".

Stanford was speaking after the Education Review Office called for a rethink of NCEA Level 1 that could include ditching the qualification.

4 Good boy Robey: Dog leads rescuers to owner missing in Ōtaki Forks

A man who had been missing on the Kapiti Coast since Saturday was found after his dog led rescuers to him.

The man and his dog, called Robey, were last seen on Kaitawa Rd in Ōtaki Forks at about 7am on Saturday. Over three days of searching, police received several reports of a dog barking in the Ōtaki Gorge area.
