Police in Sydney have recovered more than 40,000 stolen limited edition Bluey coins during a search warrant in Wentworthville.
Following inquiries over the stolen coins, Strike Force Bandit detectives executed a search warrant at about 3.30pm (local time) at a self-storage facility in the Sydney suburb.
Detectives located "numerous" Royal Australian Mint bags during the search. They contained a total of AU$40,061 (NZ$44,024) of the stolen Bluey coins.
"Police also located and seized a number of power tools, clothing items, and bags, all believed to have been stolen," a NSW Police Force spokesperson said.
Police first received a report that a large amount of currency had been stolen from a warehouse in Wetherill Park on July 12, 2024.
"Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command arrived and were told that 63,000 unreleased limited edition $1 Bluey coins — produced by the Australian Mint — had been stolen."
An investigation into the incident was then commenced by the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad under Strike Force Bandit.
Three people have been charged for their alleged involvement in this incident to date, and remain before the courts.
Investigations under Strike Force Bandit continue, police added.
