A five-year-old boy has died, and a teenage girl is in critical condition following a multi-car crash caused by an emu in South Australia.
Police were called to a three-car crash on Riddoch Highway near Nangwarry around 2.40pm yesterday, Nine reports.
A sedan had struck an emu, causing a grey Toyota to brake suddenly before it was rear-ended by a ute, police said.
A five-year-old boy in the Toyota died at the scene.
Another passenger, a 15-year-old girl, was taken to hospital with critical injuries.
Four others in the Toyota – including two youth aged 6 and 13 – sustained minor injuries.
The drivers of the sedan and ute were uninjured in the crash.
