A man who allegedly poured hot coffee on a Brisbane toddler has been named by Chinese media, according to Australian police.

The nine-month-old was having a picnic with his mother at Hanlon Park in Stones Corner when the man poured a thermos of the beverage on him on August 27.

He then fled the scene as the child was rushed to hospital.

Queensland Police Service acting assistant commissioner Andrew Massingham today told 4BC the 33-year-old suspect was named in Chinese media, but Australian authorities had refrained from revealing his identity during the international manhunt.

"Sometimes these posts can be a distraction to what we're attempting to achieve, but that search will continue until we locate this person," Massingham said.

"Those things always need to be made confidential up until the time we go public with the information."

The boy has since undergone several rounds of surgery after suffering serious burns to his face, arms and legs.

Massingham said the child "will have those injuries for life".

"It's certainly up there with one of the most heinous and cowardly crimes."

The man fled the country 12 hours before he was identified by police.
