Another week, another set of bizarre developments in the US Election cycle, reports Correspondent Logan Church from New York. Prepare yourself.
The interview FINALLY happened
The big moment in US politics this week was the much-anticipated CNN interview with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Harris had faced mounting criticism – particularly from the Trump campaign – for not fronting the nation’s media since she became the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.
During that same period – a bit over a month – Donald Trump and his VP pick senator JD Vance had both done several interviews.
But today we got it – recorded on the campaign trail in Georgia.
In many ways, CNN was a safe bet for Harris and Walz, but host Dana Brash did a good job at pushing Harris on what many believe her campaign’s major weakness so far has been – the lack of meaningful and detailed policy.
After initially not directly answering a question on what she would do on “day 1” as president. Brash asked the question again.
“It’s gonna be about, one, implementing my plan for what I call an opportunity economy,” she said.
“I’ve already laid out a number of proposals in that regard, which include what we’re gonna do to bring down the cost of everyday goods, what we’re gonna do to invest in America’s small businesses, what we’re gonna do to invest in families.”
For those looking for the best ‘zinger’ (let’s be honest – we all are), it probably came when Brash asked Harris about the attacks Trump has made on Harris’ race – in particular his recent claim that Harris had “turned black” for political purposes.
She replied: “Same old, tired playbook. Next question, please.”
Trump, for his part, responded on his social media platform Truth Social saying “BORING!”
Trump cemetery scandal
The Trump campaign has ended up in an unintended conflict with staff at the Arlington Cemetery - that’s the famous graveyard not far from the White House for fallen American soldiers.
According to the BBC, the US Army says a cemetery employee was “abruptly pushed aside” by a member of Trump’s campaign staff, while that employee was trying to make sure the staffer was adhering to rules that prohibit political activity at the cemetery.
The issue seemed to be around the staffer filming at a wreath laying ceremony.
The US Army said in a statement the “incident was unfortunate” and said the worker had been “unfairly attacked”.
The Trump campaign denied all allegations and said it had received permission to film.
Regardless, a messy scandal that probably could have been avoided.
The political merch gets better and better
If you’ve watched Breakfast recently you would have seen me spend an outrageous amount of money on merch from both the Trump and Harris campaigns.
While there has been some spectacular finds (my top purchases were the sequin studded “Trump Girl” hat and the Donald Trump tweet-book), both sides are levelling up products you can buy.
My favourite this week is the “I’m speaking” Kamala Harris tee-shirt, in reference to her now famous debate last election with then Vice President Mike Pence, who was trying to interrupt her.
That look she gave could subdue anyone. And now you can have that immortalised on a tee-shirt.
Trump trading cards...featuring Trump’s suit

And finally, in the latest example of why the United States is the best country in the world, Donald Trump is back selling digital trading cards.
These digital cards feature artwork of himself in various poses - including dancing and holding bitcoin - and can be bought by fans for US$99 (about $158).
If you want a physical card, you have to purchase 15 digital versions - but there is a special bonus if you do as the physical card has a piece of one of Donald Trump’s suits stuck to it.
Yes, you read that right. He said it was the same suit he wore during the debate with Joe Biden that led to the current President dropping out of the race.
Imagine the look on the staffer’s face who was asked to cut up one of Trump’s suits.
I love this country.
